Karman, Theodore Von

Karman, Theodore Von
(1881-1963)
   American aerodynamics expert, of Hungarian origin. He left Hungary and took up a teaching and research post at the California Institute of Technology. His work had a major impact on the development of super-sonic aircraft and rockets. During World War II he was in charge of American jet-propulsion research. In 1951 he became chairman of the Aeronautical Research and Development Committee of NATO.
